This post will contain objective questions provided to us by our
professor...
1.) Describe some of the emotions you felt
during the film. Which aspects of the video had the greatest impact on you and
why?
- What I
felt during the film is indirect shame. I myself am working on my contributions
for environmental sustainability however, other people who are just like me are
doing nothing but sustain themselves and ignore the environment; take note that
all kinds of corporate people are involved and I am not surprised to see big
firms being involved in this environmental crisis.
One of the aspects that had the greatest impact to me is the idea of
using mechanical devices to restore or renew energy like using the waves in the
sea to generate electricity, steps of people in the dance floor to generate
current and so much more. The use of mechanical means to restore electricity is
a very simple but effective way to restore electricity and applying them should
be simple enough as well, but the problem is the attitude of the people
involved. It's hard for me to imagine myself being a part of a big firm but
also forget about the fact that my actions destroy Mother Nature, it's just a
big shame in my name.....
2.) What
information contained in the video was new to you?
-
The information that was new to me is about the greenhouse gasses. I did not
know that we naturally have these gasses and that we are just adding excess
greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere which contributes to global warming.
3.) What
topics presented in the film would you like to explore further? Do you know
what you need to know in order to continue learning about environmental issues?
I the answer to that question is no, how can you find out what you need to
know?
-
There is only one topic that I would like to explore further and that is
generating electricity by means of mechanical energy, so it's more like energy
conversion, because as a future Mechanical engineer, this would be a part of my
field of expertise and being involved in this would make a very big
contribution towards environmental sustainability. I already know the things
that I need to know about environmental issues because as far as I am
concerned, I just need to focus on what I have right now and save mother earth
in my own simple ways. I don't need to be involved in big projects just to make
solutions; I can start right here, right now.
4.) Discuss ways
that eating locally produced food is an environmental issue. What can
individuals do to support the local production and consumption of foods?
-
For
example if I am going to eat a burger in a burger stand, the employee will cook
my order, which means he will use fire to cook it, and if there is fire, there
is smoke which could be harmful to the environment. After cooking, he will wrap
my order in a plastic which after eating will be thrown away and of course that
plastic will last for a long time which becomes harmful to the environment.
-
Individuals
can start by first eliminating the obvious problem and that is the use of
plastics. Papers can be used for substitute so it should not be a problem.
5.) Who should see this film and for what
purposes? Who might be unreceptive to the ideas in the film and why?
-
The ones
who should see this film are the ones who are in the Petrochemical companies
and the ones who might be unreceptive are the executives of such firms because
at the end of the day, they will only think about income and making more and
more income, that’s just about it for them; not even a trace of mother nature.
6.) Share one issue or item that you wrote on
your index card while you were watching the 11th hour.
-
The
only thing that I could share is about my resourcefulness. I am able to use a
lot of things unto my advantage and by using this for Mother Nature, I can
definitely contribute into saving Mother Nature, no matter how small or how big
my actions will be.
7.) As a result of
your having seen this film, what, if any, specific actions do you think you
will take?
-
For now
I don’t have to take big actions, I will just continue what I have started and
that is minimizing my use of plastics especially in shopping for groceries and
in the wet and dry market.
